Happy New Year
Posted by Lloyd Y. Asato | Filed under Poetics of Peet's
The year is 2005 and it is time to reflect upon my life and there is no better accomplement than a freshly brewed cup of Peets. Thus begins The Year of Coffee, an honest look through the lense of Major Dickason. I secretly hope that I live something heroic or tragic though I suspect it may be a fluffy romantic comedy. Whatever is revealed will be shared here. It begins as an unflinching search for truth, but may end up as just a photo album of mugs of coffee.
That too could be sublime.
I ring in the New Year reaching for the start button. Instead of fireworks (we did that earlier in the evening), this year (The Year of Coffee) begins with the sound of Peets being ground. Music to my ears.

This is The Year of Coffee, the year the rhythms of my life change. It is a year of discipline and caffeine. I will answer the why in December, it should be revealed by then. Till then it is a leap of faith. Something will happen.

Presh and I wish you a very Happy and Safe Year of Coffee.
Coffee Cups 394 and 395

In the first four months of this year of coffee I have consumed 393 cups of coffee. This is 748.5 SCMUs or 46.78 gallons of coffee. An SCMU (standard coffee measurement unit) equals 8 fluid ounces.
I have also consumed 514 cans of Pepsi One (despite the change in formula) or 48.2 gallons of Pepsi One. This marks the first time that I have consumed more Pepsi One than coffee.
As a side note, Presh and I took our cans to the recycling center this week. About four months of cans netted us $37.50 (deposit plus salvage).
For the caffeine geeks in the audience (taking into account just Pepsi One and coffee intake), I have consumed 140.8 grams of that bitter tasting white powder.
There have been 36,300 visitors to this site in April who read 427,259 pages. Both visitor and page averages have dropped since March, are my fifteen minutes up already?
Year to date we have welcomed 111,705 visitors and have served 1,458,789 pages. Thank you very much for reading. 394.
Of course the most important statistic is how much fun this has been. To date that metric is about here (gestures) and for that I am truly grateful. I have met some really interesting people and have seen their cups. Not to get all creepy, but that was cool. 395.

Coffee Cups 1509, 1510, 1511, and 1512

In which I spend the day sufficiently caffeinated. 1509.
Not really sure what happened today. Days have become blurs and will soon become blurrier. 1510.
Is that really how you spell caffeinated? You spell “fiend” and “caffiends”. Why do you then spell it “caffeine”? 1511.
Caffiends are the little devils who sing to you all night keeping you awake after having four cups in one day. 1512.
