Interlude 73 - Mesa Grill
Posted by Lloyd Y. Asato | Filed under Coffee Interludes
First meal was at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill. The decor was fine and the service excellent.
Appetizers were the shrimp tamales and the blue corn pancake duck thing. The tamale was just okay. Unlike the foie gras sliders, from the night before, this was not an explosion of flavors.
The duck thing was better but not amazing. It was a riff on Peking duck with blue corn pancakes and braised duck. Pretty.
Presh had the mahi done with grilled pineapple and couscous. She loved it. I had the sweet potato mash with poached egg thing and habanero sauce. This being first meal, it was appropriate. Much more flavors and spice in this dish. The habaneros got me sweating a bit. It was a bit heavy after the tamales. The meal was fine, but not amazing. I have eaten three of the Iron Chefs (two from the American version) and Morimoto wins hands down.
