Coffee Cups 1491, 1492, and 1493

1491

2005 was the year of change and it was. 2006 was the year we accomplish that which is hard and we did and it was hard. 2007 will be the year that does not suck. 1491.

1492

The final tally was 1493. Half as many as in 2005, due to the unfortunate burn out incident, but still an interesting year. A new video will follow, the accounting will continue, and we will endeavor to do the thing that does not suck each and every day. 1492.

1493

Presh and I thank you for reading and emailing and ask that you stay tuned for more interesting adventures. Here is our toast to 2007. May it bring you adventure and toys. Cheers. 1493.

Interlude 75 - New Year’s Eve 2007

2007nye

I got three phone calls from Mother warning me about the drunks, and the fights, and how dangerous the Strip is on New Year’s Eve.

2007nye2

We pour out of the Aladdin into a moderate sized crowd. It is two hours till midnight.

2007nye3

It starts to fill up as the casinos empty, and very quickly we are mobbed.

2007nye4

A fight breaks out. Three guys. I grab Presh and with little thought to my safety put myself between her and harm’s way. It is over quickly as the metro cops converge. I grab a quick shot while valiantly protecting Presh from any stray blows. She is pissed at me for blocking her view of the fight.

2007nye6

These two are cuffed, searched, and later released. The third guy was arrested and prolly missed the fireworks. I explain how valiant I was to Presh, who still would have rather watched the fight.

2007nye8

Round midnight finds us camped under La Tour Eiffel. I love this shot. The energy starts to build as we approach the countdown.

2007nye8

The fireworks were launched from several hotels. From where we stood we could see the show from TI, Flamingo, and Mandalay Bay(?). It was loud. The theme was supposed to be James Bond 007. If there was accompanying music, we could not hear it. Happy New Year everyone.

2007nye0

After the fireworks, the mob gets worse. I have been in a few mosh pits at the Whisky and others but this was insane. More fights break out. This time Presh gets to watch. The mob gets worse and the pushing and shoving intensifies. There are moments where we are so cramped it is hard to breathe. Presh starts swinging and shoving and we eventually make it out of the mess. We watch as mounted police ride into the mob, not really easing the situation. What a great way to begin the new year. The Year of Coffee continues…

Coffee Cup 1490

1490

This is going to hurt. Up early yesterday to run errands and prepare for the holiday party that Presh is hosting. It was fun and everyone had a good time. Home for a quick shower and three hours of sleep and we are off to Vegas. We watch the sunrise as we hit Kingman. Meet mother before brunch and have some fun before checking in at noonish. A quick nap before dinner then some great fish. A quick break as we reflect on the year, settle on the theme for 2007, and down the last few cups (those next). Then off to the Strip. 1490.

Coffee Cup 1489

1489

I am such an easy sale. We decide to rent a car for the weekend (a bunch of parties and the trip to Vegas to see mother). I visit my favorite neighborhood Avis for their weekend special. The nice girl asks if I want to upgrade for only 4 dollars more a day. No thanks, I say. Are you sure, she asks? You can get the Charger (and points to the car in front). Now, I am an old Mopar guy. I had a 1963 Dodge Polara as my college car and later a 1969 Dodge Coronet. I worked for Dodge for about three years. I get a smile that lasts the entire weekend. Note: the V6 is sadly underpowered, but I checked, and it does comes with a 5.7 Hemi (that is hemispheric combustion chambers). Heh. 1489.

Coffee Cup 1488

1488

One more week and one adventure ends and the search for a new one begins. The theme we are playing around with for 2007 is the year of things that do not suck. 2006 was a year we do that which is hard and some of that sucked. A change is needed. 1488.
