Hi Lloyd,
Firstly, apologies for the anonymous nature of this email, but I blog anonymously at sharetheconfusion.wordpress.com and so really have to email anonymously too. Having blogged for a number of years recognisably I’m enjoying the liberation of a little anonymous blogging, so please allow me my indulgences! Anyway, I’ve been a reader of year of the coffee (and subsequent viewer of the moblog) since the Doc Searls post, so thought I’d make a guest coffee submission for you to consider.
The attached photo is of my cappuccino at Costa Coffee today, unfortunately half finished because I only had the thought to capture the moment when half way through!
I’ve just started a project on my blog called “January No Sales” where I’m trying to get through the whole month without buying anything more than I require. Trust me, its easier than it sounds, especially for a coffee shop addict like me! One of the principles I wanted to stick to in the project was “To say yes to simplicity and a big yes to hospitality. Simple hospitality” so instead of the usual huge, super gourmet coffee I’d have gone for, today I went for a cheap, simple and basic cappuccino instead. Despite having this simpler coffee, the important part of the cafe experience, the conversation and socialising with friends, was completely undiminished, so somehow my enjoyment of the coffee was increased, regardless of my usual preference for an all singing, all dancing coffee. There seems to be a lot to this “keep it simple, focus on the really important stuff” principle.
I was halfway down the coffee before I thought to capture the moment and share it as a guest coffee submission, but a very enjoyable half it was too. On the whole, my enjoyment of cafe culture - already at a pretty high level - has been increased by the whole experience.
So, there’s my guest coffee submission! I’m really glad you chose to keep year of the coffee going, its one of the first blogs I click on in bloglines. Loving your work!

I love inside jokes and sly wink wink nudge nudges unless I am the one not in on it. Did you notice that everyone calls the site year of the coffee? I blame Siel. Well, see, THE year of coffee puts the emphasis on the year, while year of THE coffee puts it on the coffee. Obviously, your readers think the coffee’s more important ;) Also, it’s been more than a year!
