Guest Cup 46 - Houser in the House!

Mike writes:

Hi Lloyd!

It was great meeting you at Gnomedex. I’m such a wall flower. Thanks for sitting down with me and having a chat. It was a pretty cool conference - there were certainly a lot of stars of the blogosphere there. Anyway, here is my “cup”. I don’t drink coffee or wine. I definitely moved to the wrong part of the country! In Seattle if it’s not about the coffee it’s about the wine. I get some odd looks with my Diet Coke for breakfast routine.

Talk to you later.

Guest Cup 46 is from my buddy Mike Houser of Casdra Software and the Mostly Mariners Podcast. As you know, I cannot get ESPN radio in my town but no worries cause I can now listen to the Mostly Mariners Podcast! It was great meeting you at Gnomedex 5.0. Thanks for the cup, Mike.

Guest Cup 45 - Stuart Maxwell!

Stuart writes:

Lloyd –

I’ve really been enjoying your blog, and I’m honored that you asked me to submit a guest cup.

When I first moved out to the Pacific Northwest, I lived in the tiny town of North Bend, Washington. North Bend is about 45 minutes east of Seattle, and besides the outlet mall that people stop at on their way to and from skiing at Snoqualmie Pass, the town’s claim to fame is that it’s the real-life location for the fictional town of Twin Peaks. (The show, if you’ll recall, was directed and written by David Lynch. It ran for two seasons, from 1990 to 1991.)

I bought this mug at a gift shop just half a block from the RR diner, where in the TV series, special agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) would stop for cherry pie and a “damn good cup of coffee.” It has become my daily mug, and is shown here with our sugar and coffee containers and stainless steel Starbucks coffee pot.

By the way, my wife would like me to point out that she prefers to experience her coffee in a glass mug, far superior, in her opinion, to my porcelain mug. Frankly, at that hour of the morning, I can’t tell the difference.

Good luck with the move to Phoenix, and keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Stuart Maxwell

Guest Cup 45 is from my new friend Stuart Maxwell of www.stumax.com and The Louverture Project. I geeked out with Stuart at Gnomedex 5.0. I love this quote from his blog:

Here’s my big observation so far: In any other room, I’m the √?ber-geek. Here, I’m just a guy. Three guys next to me at the reception last night pulled out their Treo 650s and I was almost embarrassed to admit that I only had the 600. This is the only room where I really get tech envy.

Another observation: Since leaving the theatre, this is the first community in which I’ve felt completely comfortable. I love computers, and everyone around me loves computers. I love gadgets, everyone around me loves gadgets.

Another (okay, now I’m on a roll): The number of Macs here is amazing. Probably half the folks in the Bay Auditorium have little white glowing apple logos in front of them.

I’m truly home.

I know what you mean, Stuart.

If you are thinking of relocating to Seattle please check out his Seattle Real Estate Talk site. If you are thinking of relocating to Phoenix contact me and let us chat. Thanks for the cup Stuart.

Guest Cup 44 - Ms. Thingk!

Ms. Thingk writes:

Hi there!

Long ago I linked you from my blog and you offered me a guest cup. Well, I’ve been a combination of crazy-busy and crazy-lazy since then, but finally I’ve got my biz together and I’d love to take you up on the offer. Coffee pic= attached. and a wee descrip:

Once upon a time there was a little cup of coffee keeping watch over a rough Washington, DC neighborhood. It was a warm, sunny morning in the District, and the alley below was, for a change, quiet and ruckus-free. So, the cup of coffee was content to simply be. It knew it was made from beans that weren’t especially fresh, it knew that the coffee-pot-owner should have cleaned out the pot better before brewing fresh coffee, and it knew it probably wasn’t the tastiest cup ever. But the little cup found it was content to simply steam on the windowsill, soaking up the early morning sunlight, before being lovingly and quietly sipped.

The end.

Sincerely,
ms. thingk

Guest Cup 44 is from Ms. Thingk one of the smart articulate denizens of my favorite city. I was in the District the night she did her first post on her new blog and have been a fan ever since. Thank you for the cup, I was trying not to feel too totally blown off these last two months and ten days (see that I was being playful in your honour and posted three “to-too-two” in one sentence). Cheers!

Coffee Cups 528 and 529

The movers came today.

528

My body aches.

Dave blogs about how seeing photos of himself at Gnomedex shocks him. This move is shocking me. Who is creaking? Cannot be me I am too young.

Cup 528 waiting to be moved.

529

The state uses prison labor for these types of jobs. This bothers me. There is something wrong with prison industries that are exempt from our wage and hour laws.

The “volunteer” movers arrive at 7:00 a.m. and we are done by 10:00 a.m.

We provide doughnuts and soda for the guys. They were nice and appreciative. I was grateful for their help. However in retrospect I should have gotten them cigarettes. During the break before lunch as we chatted about home repairs I watched them share cigarette stubs. What was a bunch of guys talking as men do took on a strange colour after that. 529.

Coffee Cups 526 and 527 - Back to Reality

That was my geekstock. Blogging is free love man.

Cup 526 hangs out near gate A14 at SeaTac. I hate SeaTac. The folks at the counter were not having a good day and made sure I knew about it.

527

Cup 527 in the lounge at some other damn airport. I am afraid to count how many miles I have flown this year.

I am tired and sleepy. A couple of Guest Cups have arrived. They will get a good night’s rest and say hi tomorrow.
